S. Korea Considers Sending Unification Minister to June 15 Joint Event

South Korea is considering sending Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon to a joint inter-Korean event next month to commemorate the 18th anniversary of the first inter-Korean summit.
The two Koreas are set to hold the event marking the June 15th Joint Declaration produced during the first inter-Korean summit in 2000.
A Unification Ministry official said on Thursday that the South Korean officials who will attend the event will be decided after consultation with North Korea at high-level inter-Korean talks on Friday.
The government will reportedly propose that South Korea send Cho and North Korea send Ri Son-gwon, a North Korean official handling inter-Korean affairs. Cho and Ri will head the two delegations at the Friday high-level talks.
The venue for the joint event has not been decided, with Panmunjeom and the North Korean border city of Gaeseong tapped as possible locations.
