"US Willing to Trade Security Guarantee for N. Korea's Denuclearization"
A high-ranking official of the U.S. State Department told reporters Wednesday Washington is willing to provide North Korea with security guarantees and economic prosperity if it gives up its nuclear program.
The official was briefing reporters on the progress of the New York meeting between U.S. State Secretary Mike Pompeo and North Korean vice chairman of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers' Party Kim Yong-chol.
The official also made it clear complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization is Washington’s goal in negotiations over the North’s nuclear program, and that the U.S. wants definitive action.
