Top Office Downplays Worries Trump May Act Without South Korea

The presidential office is downplaying worries that President Trump may declare a formal end to the Korean War with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un without South Korean President Moon Jae-in present.

In a joint press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Trump suggested such a declaration could be a part of a North Korea-U.S. agreement next week in Singapore on June 12th.

South Korea had initially anticipated sending President Moon to Singapore to take part in such a declaration on the 13th, a day after the Kim-Trump meeting.

Presidential Spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom said Trump is mulling a number of scenarios, and that it is difficult for the South Korean government to take a position on such matters because they are uncertain and highly sensitive.
