A senior South Korean official has met with the Japanese ambassador to Seoul to explain North Korea’s participation in the PyeongChang Winter Olympics and the recent visit to the South by a high-ranking delegation from the North.

According to the Unification Ministry, Vice Unification Minister Chun Hae-sung said during his meeting with Yasumasa Nagamine that the South Korean government will remain calm and cool-headed despite the recent thaw in inter-Korean relations.

He added South Korea will work with the international community for smoother inter-Korean ties and for a peaceful solution to the North Korean nuclear issue.

The two sides also assessed that Seoul and Tokyo are maintaining close cooperation on North Korea and agreed to continue to do so.
