Lee Sang-wha Wins Silver in Women's 500m Speed Skating

South Korea’s Lee Sang-hwa won a silver medal in the women’s 500-meter speed skating event at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics on Sunday.  

In the final held at the Gangneung Ice Arena, Lee crossed the finish line with a time of 37-point-33 seconds to finish behind Japan’s Nao Kodaira.

Kodaira claimed the gold with a time of 36-point-94 seconds, an Olympic record. 

Karolina Erbanova of the Czech Republic took the bronze medal. 

Lee has now picked up medals in three consecutive Winter Olympics having won gold at the 2010 Vancouver Games and at the Sochi Games in 2014.   

Lee’s compatriots Kim Hyun-young and Kim Min-sun placed 12th and 16th respectively in the same event.
