South Korean speed skater Cha Min-kyu has claimed the host country's seventh medal of the PyeongChang Games, winning a silver in the men's 500-meter speed skating.

In the finals at the Gangneung Oval on Monday, the 24-year old clocked in at 34-point-42 seconds, just point-01 seconds behind Norway's Havard Lorentzen.

China's Gao Tingyu won bronze. 

Cha's compatriots, Mo Tae-bum and Cha Min-kyu, couldn't secure a podium finish.
