Canada’s Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir won the ice dance event at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics on Tuesday with a world record score.

The Canadian pair were awarded a score of 122-point-40 in the free program at the Gangneung Ice Arena which, when combined with their score from Monday’s short program, gave them a world record total score of 206-point-07.

It is the third time Virtue and Moir have claimed an Olympic gold, after winning the ice dance event at the 2010 Vancouver Games and the team event earlier in Pyeongchang.

French ice dancers Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron claimed the silver medal and American brother-sister duo Alex and Maia Shibutani took the bronze.

The South Korean team of Min Yu-ra and Alexander Gamelin finished in 18th place out of the 20 competing teams, with a combined score of 147-point-74.
