Teenage figure skating star Alina Zagitova put on a superb performance in the ladies’ free skate on Friday to secure the first gold medal for Olympic Athletes from Russia(OAR) at the PyeongChang Games.

At the Gangneung Ice Arena, Zagitova earned a total score of 239-point-57 to finish just ahead of compatriot Evgenia Medvedeva in the standings.

Although both skaters were awarded identical scores for their free skates, Zagitova won the competition overall after performing better in Wednesday’s short skate program.

Canada’s Kaetlyn Osmond took the bronze to secure the nation’s fourth medal in figure skating at the PyeongChang Games.

South Korean skater Choi Da-bin finished in seventh place with a personal-best total score of 199-point-26, while compatriot Kim Ha-nul came in 13th place after being awarded a combined score of 175-point-71.
