Moon: Olympics Served to Comfort the Korean People

President Moon Jae-in said the PyeongChang Winter Olympics is believed to have achieved the goal of providing joy and consolation to the Korean people who were bogged down by the political scandal, candlelight protests and day-to-day life.

Chairing a meeting of his top aides on Monday, the president said the Winter Games have successfully ended with the closing ceremony on Sunday.

He said the world is praising the PyeongChang Games as the best ever Winter Olympics. He said South Korea displayed its capability of delivering a peaceful, safe and high-tech Olympics. Moon said the games also gave the Korean people joy, confidence and touching moments. 

He thanked the organizing committee, Gangwon Province, volunteers and Team Korea for their passion and dedication to make the games a huge success.

The president also thanked Gangwon Province residents and the general public for their unrelenting support, and asked for continued efforts to also successfully host the Paralympic Games.
