Survey: Moon Jae-in Continues to Lead Among Presidential Hopefuls

A new opinion poll shows that former chairman of the main opposition Democratic Party Moon Jae-in is continuing to enjoy a lead over other presidential hopefuls.

In the latest poll of one-thousand-four people conducted by Gallup Korea from Tuesday to Thursday, Moon garnered support from 33 percent of the respondents, up one percentage point from last week.

South Chungcheong Province Governor Ahn Hee-jung came in second with an approval rating of 18 percent, up also one percentage point.

Seongnam Mayor Lee Jae-myung saw his approval rating remain the same from last week at eight percent.

Acting Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn, who declared on Wednesday that he will not run for president, saw his approval rating slip two percentage points to seven percent. Meanwhile, the rating for former cochairman of the minor People’s Party Ahn Cheol-soo grew one percentage point to ten percent.

The survey, however, found that Governor Ahn ranked number one in terms of likability, outdoing Moon by nine percentage points. Ahn’s rating stood at 56 percent, Moon’s at 47 percent and Lee’s at 39 percent.

The survey had a 95 percent confidence level with a margin of error of plus or minus three-point-one percentage points. Details on the latest survey are available on the Web site of the National Fair Election Survey Deliberation Commission (www.nesdc.go.kr).
