DP Renews Opposition to May Referendum on Constitutional Revision

The Democratic Party(DP) has blasted the minor People’s Party, the Liberty Korea Party and the Bareun Party for pursuing a referendum on a constitutional revision in May. 
 
DP Chairwoman Choo Mi-ae said during a meeting of the party’s Supreme Council on Friday that the three parties came up with a politically-motivated scheme while excluding people.
 
Choo reiterated that her party will pursue a constitutional revision in June after a new president is elected.
 
Without the largest DP's input, the three parties on Friday also agreed to a draft amendment, under which the immediate term for the next president will be cut to three years after which a two-term four-year presidency will be established. The three sides are seeking to put the amendment on a referendum on the election day in May.
