Moon Jae-in Elected as Democratic Party's Presidential Candidate

Presidential front-runner Moon Jae-in has swept the Democratic Party’s primary to become their candidate for the May ninth presidential election.

The former party chairman secured 60-point-four percent of the vote in the primary held in Seoul on Monday for voters in the capital region, Gangwon Province and Jeju Island.

Seongman City Mayor Lee Jae-myung finished second with 22 percent, followed by South Chungcheong Governor An Hee-jung with 17-point-three percent.

Overall, Moon won 57 percent of some one-point-four million votes cast in all four rounds of the primary held over the past eight days, winning the presidential ticket without going through a runoff.

In his acceptance speech, Moon called for an end to an era in which the nation is divided by the dichotomy between conservatives and progressives and pledged to move forward to a new era of justice and unity.
