Acting Pres. to Resign Immediately After Election

Acting President Hwang Kyo-ahn will announce his resignation as soon as a new president begins his or her term on Wednesday.

An aide to Hwang told the Yonhap news agency on Sunday that the acting president plans to announce his resignation immediately after the National Election Commission declares the winner of the presidential election on Wednesday.

Hwang is likely to offer to resign when he makes a congratulatory phone call to the new president.

Ministers and vice ministers are also likely to follow suit right after Hwang tenders his resignation. The decision to accept their resignations entirely depends on the new president.
