Home > The 31st Summer Olympic Games, Rio > Korean National Uniform History
The formal uniforms worn at the Olympic opening ceremonies not only represent the national athletes, but also the nation itself. Olympic uniforms therefore often use colors and designs symbolizing the country, and South Korea's Olympic uniforms were often inspired by the South Korean national flag Taegukgi. Traditionally, blue, white and black have been used in harmony. Blue or navy blazers and white pants were often preferred.
South Korean athletes first attended the Olympic opening ceremony donning formal uniforms in 1948, at the Summer Olympics held in London. The uniforms were later designated as modern cultural heritage in 1992.
