2016 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Korea’s genius artist Lee Jung-seop. Born in 1916, Lee Jung-seop was a pioneer in the Korean modern art scene and remains one of Korea’s most beloved artists even after his death in 1956. The life and works of this artistic genius will be in the spotlight this year, through various exhibitions, performances and seminars. Lee Jung-seop lived during the most turbulent time in modern Korean history with the Japanese Occupation and the Korean War, but his artworks are full of hope and innocence. That is why his artworks inspire hope in those who view them even today. Lee’s works have left an indelible mark in the hearts of the Korean people, which is why he is regarded as one of the most prominent painters in Korean history.
