Think Rocky, think The Replacements.

There's no drama like sports.
The recent global games reminded us of that once again.

This one dates back to the 2004 Athens Olympic games.

Back then,
Korean women in particular have done well in
many areas.
The one sport that is ignored and looked down: Handball.

The new team doesn’t look good either.

The players who show up are women in their 30s
and teens with piercings
. Can this oddball group overcome their personal differences
and hardships and somehow come together as a team?

The personal trials and tribulations
of the players are loosely based on actual handball athletes.
Once a professional Korean handball player,
working in a retail store after
her team disbanded.

Another, now playing as a coach for a handball team in Japan,
returns to Korea to become
the replacement coach for Korea’s national team.

In order to improve the team
she asks her former teammates,
to join the team and regain their past glory.

The training's hard, but the younger player’s
don’t adapt well to old school style.

There's a big gap and divide...
and players become involved in physical confrontations.

Because of this, she is asked to step down
as the coach

and a new coach takes her place.
With encouragement from her teammate,
the fired coach swallows her pride and rejoins the team as a player.

The new male coach used to be a famous handball player
but now is adapting to the role of a coach.

He implements a more scientific program
and european style training program
that faces more resistance from the players.

But you know this one has a happy ending.
Well, if you check the record books,
Korea lost a very important final four match.
But it's not the result,
but the heart shown by this team that inspires all.
