Last Stand

Today I'm going to be providing you my take on the 2 grand Hollywood projects by 2 of the most respected, loved and trusted Korean directors.

First up is the Last Stand, starring the Governator, Arnold himself.

Directed by Kim Ji-woon
Stars Arnold Schwarzenegger

Also interesting to note were appearance by a guy that looks like LA Lakers center Pau Gasol
and the actor who played Ksersis the Kind King in the movie 300.

Johnny Knoxville, famos as the leader of the outlandish "Jackass" team also is in it.

The story is quite simple and straightforward.

Arnold plays a small town sheriff who likes his job, and is about to retire.

He actually saw a lot of action and blood while working in the big city as a big shot cop.

And along comes the son and heir apparent of a drug lord who escapes the grasp of law enforcements riding on a souped-up race car, cruising past everything at 300 km/h.

It's up to Arnold and his motley crew to try and stop him, as the last remaining obstacle before the cocky criminal can cross the border.

Kim Ji-woon said he had some trouble communicating with the crew.
But Arnold helped out a great deal.

The movie is entertaining, I still feel his best work was Bitter Sweet Life.

This is a very different color compared to that masterpiece, so can't really compare.

Stoker

Directed by Park Chan-wook
Stars Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode

All three names guarantee movie success.
Just one of them is enough to breath a whole new life and bring a movie to a whole new stratosphere.

Unfortunately this collaboration doesn't really take off.

Where did it go wrong is all that was on my mind throughout the movie.

The plot is simple, too many metaphors and such.

It is all about providing discomfort through the scenes that keep you in fear of what may come next.

But there is no fizz, no oomph!

It's basically about a dysfunctional family.

A father who passed away.
A mother who couldn't get through to her daughter.
A daughter who only trusted her dad.

And a brother of the deceased father who appears out of the blue to heighten the tension and mystery further.

Perhaps Park should indulge his own artistic thirst a little less and think about the audience.
