Sejong City's birthrate is the highest among 17 South Korean cities and provinces.

According to Statistics Korea on Sunday, the total fertility rate of Sejong City came to one-point-67 last year, almost twice larger than point-84 of Seoul City.

The total fertility rate refers to the number of children a woman gives birth to during her lifetime.
​
Sejong City, which is witnessing a steady increase in population with the relocation of central government agencies and state research institutes, ranked first in terms of fertility rate for three straight years since 2015.
​
In contrast, the rate for Seoul City is steadily decreasing from one in 2015 to point-94 in 2016 and point-84 last year, the lowest among 17 cities and provinces.
