Lumpy Skin Disease(LSD) has been confirmed in Gangwon Province and Incheon for the first time, raising the total number of cases in the country to 27 just four days after the first case was confirmed.
According to the agriculture ministry, ten more cases of the virus were confirmed as of Tuesday afternoon, including at a farm in Yanggu County, Gangwon Province, three farms in Incheon's Ganghwa County, one farm in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province and five farms in Seosan and Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province.
With LSD spreading inland from the country’s west, livestock authorities are focusing on vaccination and quarantine, with all heads at confirmed farms set to be culled and emergency vaccination completed at farms within a ten-kilometer radius by the end of the month.
By early next month, one-point-seven million vaccines will be distributed and administered in regions including Chungcheong and Gyeonggi provinces.
Authorities say it takes approximately three weeks for antibodies to form after vaccination.
