Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has stressed that containing the spread of Lumpy Skin Disease(LSD) in its early stages is key to tackling the viral disease that affects cattle.
Chairing a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Han said the next three weeks are crucial when considering that it takes roughly three weeks for antibodies to form after vaccination.
Han then ordered related agencies, including the agriculture ministry, to thoroughly take measures to prevent further spread of the disease, together with quarantine measures for infected farms.
The prime minister requested livestock farms to actively cooperate in the government’s quarantine measures.
Han also instructed agencies to take steps to prevent infectious diseases from spreading in livestock farms, together with local governments and related industries, as he cited that the risk of livestock being infected with diseases such as avian influenza and foot-and-mouth-disease tend to rise during the winter season.
