President Yoon Suk Yeol has vowed to reflect the will of the people in state affairs from now on.
The president made the promise Thursday during a news conference at the presidential office, saying he is well aware of his shortcomings and those of the government and intends to fix them.
The president also said the government will strengthen communication with the ruling party and become a government that works for the people.
Asked whether he plans to conduct a personnel sweep, replacing presidential aides and Cabinet members, Yoon said a search for candidates is underway and personnel changes will take place at an appropriate time.
But he said the timing will take into consideration the upcoming deliberations for next year’s budget and the launch of the new administration in the U.S.
Yoon began the news conference with a public apology for the controversies surrounding his conduct and that of first lady Kim Keon-hee, saying everything is the result of his own shortcomings and lack of virtue.
