China has decided to extend the visa-free stay period from 15 days to 30 days for passport holders from countries in its visa-free program, including South Korea.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian revealed the decision during a regular briefing Friday.

Lin added that people on “exchange visits” now qualify for visa-free travel along with those traveling for business or tourism, or to visit family.

He also said China will expand its visa-free program to include nine additional countries, including Japan and Bulgaria.

The new measures will take effect next Saturday and remain valid through December 31 of next year.
