'12.12: The Day' Wins Top Prize at 45th Blue Dragon Awards

Director Kim Sung-soo's historical drama film "12.12: The Day" won the top honor at the 45th Blue Dragon Film Awards.

The film about South Korea's 1979 military coup was named Best Picture at the awards ceremony on Friday night.

Actor Hwang Jung-min, who played a character based on late former President Chun Doo-hwan in the movie, won Best Actor. 

"12:12 The Day" also won two more prizes for editing and attracting the highest number of moviegoers, with over 13 million in ticket sales.

Director Jang Jae-hyun's paranormal thriller "Exhuma," another film that topped 10 million admissions to the box office, won four prizes, including one for Best Director and Best Actress in the leading role for Kim Go-eun.

The Blue Dragon Awards is one of Korea's three biggest awards for domestic films, along with the Daejong Film Awards and the Baeksang Arts Awards.
