The prosecution has imposed a travel ban on former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, who has been called a traitor for allegedly advising President Yoon Suk Yeol to declare martial law.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office slapped Kim with the ban Thursday via the justice ministry.

The prosecution apparently decided to ban Kim from traveling abroad after taking into consideration that he is no longer a public employee, since Yoon accepted his resignation.

Suspicions among politicians that Kim could flee also apparently influenced the decision.

Prosecutors have yet to decide whether they will personally investigate Kim’s case, as treason does not fall under the prosecution’s jurisdiction.

However, some observers say prosecutors could launch an investigation on power abuse allegations.

Meanwhile, the former defense chief told KBS that he has no intent to flee the nation, dismissing rumors to the contrary as political incitement.
