Yoon Rejects Army Chief's Resignation Following Reversal of Martial Law

President Yoon Suk Yeol rejected Army Chief of Staff Park An-su's resignation, which Park offered after he served as commander of martial law the president declared, then lifted earlier this week.

According to a high-ranking official at the top office on Thursday, Yoon urged Park to focus on fulfilling his duties as the Army chief, stressing on a stable management of the military under the current grave security situation.

At a session of the parliamentary Defense Committee earlier in the day, Park said he had tendered his resignation on Wednesday to then-Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun.

Kim, who is believed to have advised the president on martial law declaration, offered to step down and his resignation was authorized by the president earlier on Thursday.
