Ruling People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo has expressed hope that President Yoon Suk Yeol will announce plans to step down before Saturday’s impeachment vote.

Speaking to reporters at the National Assembly on Friday, Ahn said he will have no choice but to vote in favor of the impeachment motion if the president does not resign.

He added that it’s impossible for Yoon to continue his duties as president.

The ruling party lawmaker also said he’s asked Yoon to announce a timeline regarding when he will step down and the formation of a politically neutral Cabinet so the country can be governed in an orderly manner.

Ahn also noted that Yoon has yet to offer any apology or statement regarding the martial law decree that gave rise to Saturday’s impeachment vote.
