National Intelligence Service(NIS) First Deputy Director Hong Jang-won says President Yoon Suk Yeol wanted to arrest the ruling and opposition party leaders and other politicians when he declared martial law Tuesday night.
During his meeting with the head of the National Assembly Intelligence Committee on Friday, the deputy spy chief provided his account of the situation Tuesday night.
According to Rep. Kim Byung-kee, who attended the Intelligence Committee meeting, the NIS official received a phone call that night from President Yoon, who told him to work with the Defense Counterintelligence Command to “round them all up.”
The NIS deputy chief also said he held telephone talks with Defense Counterintelligence Commander Yeo In-hyung, who verbally provided a list of politicians Yeo wanted Hong to locate in order to arrest them.
