Military Suspends Martial Law Commanders Who Dispatched Troops to Nat’l Assembly, Election Body

The military has suspended from duty the commanders who dispatched troops to the National Assembly and the National Election Commission when the country was under martial law late Tuesday night. 

In a notice to reporters on Friday, the defense ministry said Capital Defense Commander Lee Jin-woo, Special Warfare Commander Kwak Jong-geun and Defense Counterintelligence Commander Yeo In-hyung have all been suspended.

Lee is on standby at the Ground Operations Command, Kwak at the Capital Corps and Yeo at the defense ministry.

The ministry named Lt. Gen. Kim Ho-bok as acting chief of the Capital Defense Command, Maj. Gen. Park Sung-jae as acting chief of the Special Warfare Command and Maj. Gen. Lee Gyeong-min as acting chief of the Defense Counterintelligence Command.
