The prosecution will jointly conduct an investigation with military prosecutors on the case of alleged treason in the process of President Yoon Suk Yeol's declaration of martial law late Tuesday.
According to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office on Friday, the prosecution's special investigative unit intends to bring in military prosecutors and personnel for cooperation.
The decision was apparently made given the fact that troops were deployed during martial law and that many of the key people in the case are high-ranking military officials.
The special unit of 20 prosecutors will be led by Park Se-hyun, head of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office under the supervision of Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung, and will be based at the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Offices
Meanwhile, military prosecutors requested the justice ministry to issue a travel ban against ten military officials, including former martial law commander, Army Chief of Staff Park An-su.
Others include heads of the Defense Counterintelligence Command, Capital Defense Command, and Special Warfare Command, who are being accused of treason.
