Anchor: A motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol has failed to pass the National Assembly, after Yoon put the country under martial law earlier this week only to revoke the order about six hours later. The motion, submitted by the main opposition Democratic Party and five minor parties, was scrapped when attendance fell short of the quorum of two-thirds of the 300-member Assembly.

Report: The pan-opposition failed to gather the two-thirds quorum in the 300-member Assembly that is necessary to impeach a sitting president.

Of the 108 ruling People Power Party lawmakers, 105 boycotted the impeachment vote on Saturday, giving President Yoon Suk Yeol a temporary reprieve.

Rep. Ahn Cheol-soo was the only ruling party lawmaker remaining in the chamber after other People Power Party legislators stormed out of the session en masse.

Ruling party Reps. Kim Yea-ji and Kim Sang-wook later returned to vote, but in the end, only 195 of the country’s 300 lawmakers cast ballots on the motion.

National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik had postponed an end to the impeachment vote, urging representatives to cast their ballots, but ruling party lawmakers remained unmoved.

The impeachment motion accused the president of declaring martial law in violation of the Constitution, infringing on the principles of popular sovereignty and the separation of powers.

The main opposition Democratic Party says it is going to file another motion to oust Yoon.
