Ruling People Power Party (PPP) Chairman Han Dong-hoon said on Sunday that his party will seek an "orderly retreat" of President Yoon Suk Yeol to minimize confusion for the nation and the people and restore the country's liberal democracy.
Han pledged in a televised address to the nation that the party will swiftly announce concrete measures for the orderly retreat of the president through discussions.
The statement came a day after the ruling party blocked a motion to impeach President Yoon over his botched martial law declaration at a plenary session of the National Assembly.
The PPP chair promised to make sure that the president will not be involved in state affairs, including diplomacy, even before his departure.
Han also vowed to ensure that the ongoing investigation into Yoon's martial law declaration will be carried out in a transparent manner, stressing that the government or the party will never attempt to protect anyone in the case, including the president.
Han went on to say that he will regularly meet with Prime Minister Han Duck-soo to make sure that the management of state affairs is not interrupted.
