The main opposition Democratic Party(DP) has proposed bills to appoint special counsels to investigate President Yoon Suk Yeol for treason over his martial law declaration and first lady Kim Keon-hee in connection with various allegations.

DP lawmakers Kim Yong-min and Kim Seung-won submitted the bills to the bill division of the National Assembly on Monday morning.

The National Assembly passed special counsel bills against the first lady three times, but they were all vetoed by President Yoon and scrapped in parliamentary revotes.

The DP plans to put the two bills to a vote in a parliamentary plenary session on Thursday.
