The head of the state anti-corruption agency says he ordered investigators looking into last week’s martial law incident to request a travel ban for President Yoon Suk Yeol.
Oh Dong-woon, the chief prosecutor at the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials(CIO), made the disclosure on Monday when he appeared before the National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee.
Oh said the order was issued, though it has yet to be carried out.
Asked by a main opposition Democratic Party lawmaker whether the CIO is willing to detain Yoon, Oh said the agency is actively investigating aspects of the case that fall under treason.
He said the CIO is willing to carry out its investigation based on the principle of detaining those involved in the crimes of insurrection.
In addition to the police and prosecution cases, the CIO is conducting its own investigation into Yoon on allegations of treason and abuse of authority after he declared emergency martial law last Tuesday.
