The National Office of Investigation's(NOI) team probing the December 3 martial law decree began questioning National Police Agency Commissioner General Cho Ji-ho, who alleged played a role in restricting entry to the National Assembly following the declaration.
The special team said on Tuesday that interrogation of the police chief as a suspect in the case started at 4 p.m. and that the investigators intend to separately summon Kim Bong-sik, chief of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency later the same day.
Cho and Kim face charges of treason for allegedly giving orders for the police to restrict entry to parliament under martial law in a bid to block the National Assembly from voting to demand the president to revoke martial law.
Cho previously told parliament that he had given the initial order for blocked entry, while the second order was issued after being requested by then-martial law commander Park An-su.
The special team earlier summoned eleven officials under the Yoon Suk Yeol administration for questioning, including Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and Cabinet members who attended a meeting prior to the declaration.
