Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung has reiterated his party’s determination to push ahead with the vote to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol at the National Assembly on Saturday.

Speaking at a Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly on Wednesday, Lee said the efforts can’t be stopped and that parliament will fulfill the people’s wishes.

He noted that several ruling People Power Party lawmakers supported a permanent special counsel bill targeting Yoon.

He called on them to take part in the upcoming impeachment vote too.

With both the defense and foreign ministries recognizing Yoon as commander-in-chief, the opposition party leader said the president is only escalating the national crisis by holding onto that role while under investigation for allegedly leading an insurrection.
