The head of the nation’s anti-corruption body says it is willing to arrest President Yoon Suk Yeol if appropriate.

Oh Dong-woon, the head of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials(CIO), said Wednesday that the agency will look to arrest President Yoon Suk Yeol either with a warrant or through emergency detention if the necessary conditions are met.

Oh disclosed the information during a meeting of the National Assembly’s Legislative and Judiciary Committee, after committee chair Jung Chung-rae called for the president’s immediate arrest.

When asked whether the CIO intends to arrest Yoon, the chief of the investigative body said the agency is investigating diligently and will consider making an arrest.

However, Oh said there are investigative procedures and related tasks that must be carried out first.

He also said someone who leads an insurrection can be arrested without a warrant.
