Officers from the National Office of Investigation under the police agency have yet to enter the presidential office or the Joint Chiefs of Staff(JCS) to execute a search warrant concerning the December 3 martial law decree.
According to the team on Wednesday, its investigators followed procedures to enter the presidential office at around 11:45 a.m., but as of 4 p.m. they had yet to reach agreement with the Presidential Security Service on how to execute the warrant.
The two sides are reportedly in talks over the voluntary submission of documents by the top office.
The search warrant is valid for one week but does not allow investigators to carry out their work after sunset, which is expected to take place at around 5:14 p.m. Wednesday.
Identifying President Yoon Suk Yeol as a suspect, the warrant covers his office, the room where the Cabinet convenes, the Presidential Security Service and the JCS.
The presidential office said in a separate statement that it is responding to the warrant, in accordance with the law and in line with precedents set by past administrations.
Entry to the JCS complex beside the presidential office, where the martial law command’s situation room operated when the country was under martial law, is also being restricted.
