The ruling People Power Party’s new floor leader says the party's platform is to reject the motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol.

Floor leader Kweon Seong-dong made the remark Thursday, just hours after he was elected to the post, saying consent from two-thirds of the party’s lawmakers would be required to change its position. 

Kweon was quick to add, however, that he will convene a general meeting of legislators to discuss whether any changes should be made.

On views within the party that lawmakers should independently take part in the impeachment vote, Kweon said a decision on the issue will be reached at an upcoming general meeting. 

While saying he respects the opinion of each lawmaker, Kweon, who is regarded as a pro-Yoon lawmaker, said the party must pursue a united front on key issues.
