Ruling People Power Party(PPP) Rep. Jin Jong-oh, who is a member of the party’s Supreme Council, has expressed his intent to vote in favor of an opposition-led motion seeking to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol.
At a press conference Thursday, Jin said he has decided to vote in support of impeachment during Saturday’s plenary vote to protect the nation’s constitutional spirit and democracy.
The proportional representative, who boycotted this past Saturday’s impeachment vote, said he came to realize that Yoon’s December 3 martial law declaration damaged the values and philosophy he and his party hold dear.
Jin also pledged his best efforts to help the ruling party overcome the current crisis and regain the public’s trust.
Eight votes in favor from the PPP are required for the impeachment motion to pass parliament.
Six other PPP lawmakers, Reps. Cho Kyoung-tae, Ahn Cheol-soo, Kim Sang-wook, Kim Yea-ji, Kim Jae-sub and Han Ze-ea, have also openly expressed their intent to support the motion.
