A bloc of six opposition parties, led by the main opposition Democratic Party(DP), has submitted a second motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol following his December 3 martial law declaration.
The motion, tabled by 191 lawmakers from the DP, the Rebuilding Korea Party, the Reform Party, the Jinbo Party, the Basic Income Party, and the Social Democratic Party, was submitted to the National Assembly at around 5:28 p.m. Thursday.
The opposition bloc intends to report the motion to a plenary session on Friday, before putting it to a vote on Saturday.
The opposition parties earlier tabled an impeachment motion against the president to be put to a plenary vote last Saturday.
That motion failed to pass parliament without a vote count as it fell short of meeting the quorum of two-thirds of the 300-member Assembly after 105 out of 108 ruling People Power Party(PPP) lawmakers boycotted the move.
The only ruling party lawmakers who cast a vote on Yoon’s impeachment were Ahn Cheol-soo, Kim Yea-ji, and Kim Sang-wook.
