The National Office of Investigation under the police agency announced on Friday that they had obtained the secure phone used by Korean National Police Agency(KNPA) Commissioner General Cho Ji-ho during calls with President Yoon Suk Yeol on the night of the emergency martial law declaration.

A special investigation team official stated during a briefing at the KNPA headquarters in Seoul, that the secure phone was used during six separate calls between Cho and President Yoon.

A secure phone is a mobile phone with programs installed to prevent wiretapping and call recording.

Previously, the police had secured a mobile phone from Cho, who voluntarily gave up the device, but it was found to be his personal phone and not the secure phone they were seeking.

The special investigation team also revealed that Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency chief Kim Bong-sik, who ordered the blockade of the National Assembly, used an ordinary mobile phone rather than a separate secure phone for communication.
