Prosecutors investigating the December 3 martial law decree began questioning Capital Defense Commander Lee Jin-woo as a suspect regarding the deployment of troops to the National Assembly under martial law.

The interrogation began Saturday morning, after Lee was apprehended with a warrant by the prosecution’s special team Friday night.

The warrant was issued after Lee failed to respond to a summons from prosecutors.

The special team is reportedly grilling Lee about the objectives behind the deployment of troops and whether the soldiers were armed at the time.

Investigators are also expected to interrogate Lee about what orders President Yoon Suk Yeol gave him during their phone conversation on the night of martial law and whether he discussed an alleged plan to detain 14 people, including politicians, with the Defense Counterintelligence Command.

The prosecution is holding Lee for 48 hours and intends to file for a pretrial detention warrant.
