The National Assembly on Saturday convened a plenary session to vote on a second motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol, with both the ruling and opposition parties taking part.

The first motion failed to pass parliament last Saturday as attendance fell short of the two-thirds quorum required in the 300-member Assembly, with most of the ruling People Power Party lawmakers boycotting the session.

Like the first motion, the second stated that in declaring martial law, Yoon violated the Constitution and other laws concerning the principles of popular sovereignty and the separation of powers.

The latest bill also highlighted the fact that martial law troops and police under Yoon’s command attempted to arrest lawmakers, citing that as an additional reason to oust Yoon.
