The National Assembly has convened a plenary session to vote on a second motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol.

The voting started at around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, with both the ruling and opposition parties taking part.

Like the first motion, the second stated that in declaring martial law, Yoon violated the Constitution and other laws concerning the principles of popular sovereignty and the separation of powers.

The latest bill also highlighted the fact that martial law troops and police under Yoon’s command attempted to arrest lawmakers, citing that as an additional reason to oust Yoon.

The pan-opposition is believed to have secured a total of 192 votes to impeach Yoon, so only eight ballots from the ruling People Power Party are needed to form a two-thirds majority and remove the president.
