Large-scale rallies unfolded throughout Seoul on Thursday as the National Assembly passed a motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol.

Progressive groups staged a massive demonstration in front of the National Assembly starting in the afternoon, drawing an estimated 208,000 people according to police, while organizers claimed a turnout of 2 million.

In contrast, an alliance of conservative groups opposing the impeachment held a rally in Seoul’s Gwanghwamun area.

Police estimated about 41,000 attendees, while organizers claimed 6 million.

With significant traffic congestion reported, authorities advised the public to rely on public transportation and check traffic updates in advance.
