The Foreign Ministry has reassured allies of consistency in the country's foreign and security policies after the National Assembly passed a motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol on Saturday.
The ministry said on Saturday that Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul met with United States Ambassador to Seoul Philip Goldberg to explain the domestic situation in relation to Yoon's impeachment vote.
In the meeting, Cho stressed that the country's foreign and security policy based on the South Korea-U.S. alliance remains unchanged, reaffirming the government's commitment to continued development of the alliance.
First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Hong-kyun also met with Japan's Ambassador to South Korea Koichi Mizushima.
Kim emphasized that Seoul's foreign policy direction will remain consistent and that the government will continue to make steadfast efforts to further develop Korea-Japan relations.
Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Chung Byung-won held a meeting with Fang Kun, the charge d'affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Seoul.
The two sides agreed to enhance mutual economic cooperation and promote people-to-people exchanges.
