The main opposition Democratic Party (DP) Chairman Lee Jae-myung has proposed a bipartisan consultative body to stabilize state affairs after the National Assembly passed a motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol.

Lee made the proposal on Sunday in a press conference, saying that the DP will actively cooperate with all the parties to stabilize state affairs and regain trust from the international community.

The DP chair also urged the Constitutional Court to swiftly proceed with Yoon's impeachment trial, saying that it is the only way to minimize confusion in the country.

Lee added that the DP will launch a special committee to stabilize state affairs, vowing to make an all-out effort to help the country recover from the confusion.

Lee also said that the party has decided not to seek the impeachment of Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, who is now acting president, saying that Han's impeachment may worsen confusion in state affairs.
