Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul said on Sunday that the government will make thorough preparations to respond to possible changes under the new United States administration of Donald Trump, which is set to launch in January.
The minister made the remarks to reporters on Sunday, a day after the National Assembly passed a motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol.
Cho also said that based on the trilateral cooperation with the United States and Japan, the government will establish a thorough readiness posture against North Korea's threats and provocations.
The foreign minister continued that the government will review and strengthen its cooperative relationships with the international community, including major countries, and work to quickly secure trust and support for the acting president system.
Cho vowed to make active efforts to maintain the solid South Korea-U.S. alliance and friendly relations with Japan, as well as the momentum of the trilateral cooperation between South Korea, the United States and Japan.
The top diplomat also pledged to strengthen diplomacy to ensure the current situation will not affect South Korean companies in cooperation with businesses and diplomatic missions abroad.
