The justices of the Constitutional Court will hold their first meeting on Monday to launch proceedings for a trial on the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol.

Acting Chief Justice Moon Hyung-bae is set to hold a meeting of the court’s justices at 10 a.m. to decide the schedule for a preparatory hearing and the procedures for evidence inspection.

In the meeting, the court is likely to select the presiding judge and appoint two judges who will oversee the evidence investigation.

The justices are also expected to discuss how to set up a task force comprising constitutional researchers to review the legal principles.

It is customary for the court not to disclose the presiding judge, however, it revealed such information during the impeachment trial of former President Park Geun-hye in 2016, in light of the gravity of the case, after the first meeting of the justices.

Once preparatory procedures are completed, a trial will be held in earnest where the National Assembly, which passed the impeachment motion, and President Yoon will argue over the legitimacy of the impeachment.
