The joint investigation team probing President Yoon Suk Yeol’s botched martial law attempt plans to ask Yoon to appear for questioning on Wednesday.

The joint team, comprised of the police, the defense ministry's investigation unit, and the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials(CIO), said it plans to send the request to Yoon’s office on Monday.

The anti-corruption body will reportedly ask Yoon to appear at the CIO office at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Yoon is facing charges of treason and abuse of authority over the short-lived martial law order.

Meanwhile, the police special probe team said on Monday that it has transferred its martial law investigation related to Yoon to the CIO, adding it accepted the CIO’s request for a swift and effective investigation.

Accordingly, the investigation into Yoon and a possible request for a pretrial detention warrant will be conducted by the CIO, while the probe into top police officials involved in the case will continue to be carried out through consultations between the police special probe team and the prosecution.
